Fees

I also offer a prints only option with a base fee of $600 and an hourly rate of $200 per hour. After the event the photos will be made available online for ordering and viewing. You may opt to receive a printed and bound proof books for $50 per 200 photos, but you do not receive any jpegs / digital negatives of your event.

If you purchase any prints or a copy of your photographs on DVD or CD-ROM that will be mailed to an address in Minnesota, Minnesota State Sales & Use Tax Law states that I must charge sales tax of 6.875% for the entire service fee.

I require attending your rehersal (if at all possible) so that I can get a feel for the environment and lighting conditions of the event location.

Without seeing the location prior to the event, I would have to photograph your special day with limited information and planning. I need to be able to plan and prepare because I want to do my best during your once-in-a-lifetime event.

Travel expenses (parking, mileage over 30 miles, et al) are paid for by you and I charge $.50 a mile past 30 miles one way.

I maintain copyright over my work.

You are granted limited reproduction rights to the photographs for your private / family use only. You may not sell my photographs or license my work to other people or companies.

My shots are typically at a ratio of 12 good photos to every 1 blurry/unusable.

12:1 is an extremely good ratio among professional photographers.

Kari & Jeff's Wedding...

June 17th, 2006 - view photos

The rain didn't stop Kari & Jeff's great wedding celebration on the shore of Lake Minnetonka in Excelsior, Minnesota.

The bride's mom said Kari had pretty much given up hope on finding a wedding photographer that would work within the time frame and cost she had budgeted. Then in late May she ran across my website...

The rain did not deter us from getting a great batch of shots. Everybody kept in good spirits and blaze orange sunset at the end of the evening could not be beat.

My shot averages were:
  • 202 total photos per hour (1209 total over 6 hours)
  • 10 blurry / unuseable photos per hour (approximately 60 total)
The day was very overcast and the clouds were heavy in the sky. I ended up having to use my flashes more than I typically would, but the results were well worth it.

I personally prefer to shoot with a "stepped-down" (aka softer/less bright) flash so that the subjects blend in more naturally with the background. I think the job of the flash is to balance the photo and bring some color into an otherwise dull shot (due to lighting/clouds/darkness.)

My goal isn't to illuminate the subject much beyond the natural light that is available. You will see that in the shots from this wedding. The typical result of most flash usage is to brighten the subjects so much that the background becomes total darkness and the subject loses all shadows and become washed out.

Sometimes it takes a few shots before you get the lighting right, but the end result is much more appealing then a washed out subject on a black background.

More kind words...

"Dear Ryan,
We couldn't be more pleased with what you did in making beautiful memories for our children. How could you be so many places at one time? You captured the feeling of the day. Some said that they didn't want the magic to end that night. (It was 2:30 a.m.) The magic won't end because you managed to keep it all alive. Thank you! We would be happy to talk with any clients who want our perspective."

Lori & Kevin's Wedding...

I recently shot a wedding on June 3rd, 2006. It was a blazing hot day without a cloud in the sky to soften the intesity of the sun. The wedding went great.

My shot averages were:
  • 277 total photos per hour (1386 total over 5 hours)
  • 20 blurry / unuseable photos per hour (approximately 100 total)

The couple's main request was candids, candids, candids! So I obliged and focused on unique photos of the 100+ guests. I also captured "getting ready", the 15 minute ceremony and the following dinner with the start of the dance.

June 9th, 2006 Update...
Lori, the bride, has seen the photos and this is her response:
"you did a great job and managed to be everywhere necessary without being intrusive--we were really happy with the job you did."
